Horace Ely Daffin, son of William Richard Daffin and Mary Jane Ely, was born at St. Joseph's, Calhoun County, Florida, on 30 Jun 1842.  He married Sarah Jane Dykes on 10 Feb 1865, in Jackson County, Florida. Horace enlisted in Company F(Gulf State Guards), 2nd Florida Infantry on 13 Jul 1861. He was wounded tin the right leg at the Battle of Seven Pines, Virginia, on 31 July 1862. He was never able to return to duty, but assisted the enrolling officer in Jackson County, Florida, until the end of the war. Horace may have been in Marianna at the time of the battle. William Chafin was born in Jasper County, Georgia, on 23 May 1846. He enlisted in Company F, 27th Battalion Georgia Infantry in Sep 1863 and was discharged on April 26, 1865 at Greensbough, North Carolina. He reports he was wounded in the thumb and shoulder at Bentonville, North Carolina. [FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION A05372]
