James Thomas Braxton was born in Pitt County, North Carolina in 1828 (some records list 1823), and he died in Jackson County, Florida, 27 December 1884. He married Sarah Ann McNealy on 1 May 1855, in Jackson County, Florida. They had thirteen children. James T. Braxton enlisted as a private on 1 April 1863, in Company E, 2nd Battalion Florida Infantry.
