Private John Wyatt Basford N30°47.976' W85°0.762' John W. Basford was born 22 Oct 1845 in Brunswick County, North Carolina. He stated in his pension file that he enlisted at the "school house" in Jackson County, Florida on 22 Apr 1863 IN Company I, 4th Florida Regiment. Records indicate he was in the "hospital wounded" in June 1863. Private Basford was captured on 14 May 1864 at Dallas, Georgia. He was confined at Rock Island, Illinois. He was exchanged at Richmond, Virginia, in Apr 1865. Admitted to Chimborazo Hospital # 1 in Richmond and furloughed home. He arrived in Jackson County, Florida on 21 Apr 1865. Private Samuel S. Basford N30°47.984' W85°0.750' Samuel S. Basford was born in Brunswick County, North Carolina. He enlisted in Company I, 4th Florida Regiment on 21 Sep 1861 at Fort Mallory on St Vincent Island, Florida. Samuel S. Basford's pension application indicates he enlisted at St. Vincent Island, Florida on 8 Sep 1861. He was captured on 25 Nov 1863 at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee and sent to Rock Island, Illinois. Due to sickness (poor eyesight and severe Rheumatism) he was transferred for exchange on 15 Feb 1865. He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital # 2 on 4 Mar 1865 and was furloughed for 30 days on 12 Mar 1865. He reached home in Jackson County, Florida on 1 Apr 1865. Private Joseph B. Cox N30°47.967' W85°0.741' Joseph B. Cox was born in Barnsville District, South Carolina in 1825. He enlisted in Company C (Captain Poe's), 1st Regiment Infantry Reserves in May 1864 and was discharged in May 1865. His name does not appear on the rolls, but sworn statements from members of the company attest to the fact he was a member. He married Martha Croft on 4 March 1876, in Jackson County, Florida. Her widows pension application state Joe's death as 29 July 1896.[CONFEDERATE PENSION # A00632]

Private Zachariah Hamilton N30°47.978' W85°0.744' Zachariah Hamilton was born in South Carolina on 1 Jul 1840. He enlisted in Company F, 6th Florida Infantry at Apalachicola Arsenal at Chattahoochee, Florida, on 12 May 1862. He was captured 16 Dec 1864, near Nashville, Tennessee and was sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois. Zachariah was discharged 19 Jun 1865. [CONFEDERATE PENSION # A06202 - NARA PUB M251 REEL 71 G-H]

Walden Hewitt N30°47.979' W85°0.707' Emily Waden Hewitt was born in North Carolina, 11 June 1842. He enlisted in Company E, 8th Florida Infantry Regiment at Marianna, Florida in 1864. His name is not listed on company rolls, but Union prisoner of war records list him as being captured 6 Apr 1865 at Harpers Farm, Virginia, and was sent to Point Lookout, Maryland, on 15 Apr 1865. . He took the oath and was released on 13 June 1865. He was approved for a pension. [FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION RECORDS #A06327]

Hewitt N30°47.988' W85°0.730' James M. Hewett was born 4 Nov 1837 and died 30 Dec 1912. He enlisted in Company E, 8th Florida Infantry on 13 may 1862. He spent a great deal of time away from his unit due to sickness. He was also court marshaled for desertion, but managed to return to his unit before the war was over. There is also a James M. Hewitt listed in Company A 5th Battalion Florida Cavalry [FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION RECORD # A01367 - NARA PUB M251 REEL 83 H-Go]

Irvin Moody N30°47.730' W85°0.717' Ellis Irvin Moody was born 22 Feb 1834 and died 25 Oct 1907. He enlisted in Campbell's Siege Artillery in June 1862. He was stationed at St. Marks, Florida for most of the war. After the war he married Martha Ann Sheppard on 26 Nov 1866. Letter of Support [FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION RECORD # A03359]

Benjamin H. NEEL was born in Early County, Georgia, on 5 Aug 1817, and died on 14 Oct 1895. He married Gilley C. in Early County, Georgia, 27 Apr 1845. He enlisted in Captain Robinson's Home Guard in 1864. [FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION # A12272]

Cornelius Stephens was born 5 Nov 1847 in Jackson County,
Florida, and died 11 Jun 1922. He enlisted in Captain George Robinson's Home Guard
15 Jun 1864, at Owens Pond. He stated in his pension application that he was
given the detail to follow the Yankee's
after the Marianna Raid and then he was stationed to guard Marianna, Orange
Hill, and Iola, Florida. He also served as a wagon train guard. He was
discharged in April 1865 at Marianna, Florida. He married Mary Owens on 10
Feb 1880, in Jackson County, Florida.

Private Ferdinand
J. Weeks
Has Ferdinand J. Weeks enlisted in Company I, 4th Regiment Infantry in 1862 and was discharged shortly after discharge at St. Vincent Island with a broken left arm. He later enlisted in Captain George Robinson's Home Guard. He married Sarah Schott in Jackson County [FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION # A01538]
