Joseph C. Dykes, son of James Riley Dykes and Jane E. Bryan, enlisted in Company A, 11th Florida Infantry, at Merritt's Bridge, Jackson County, Florida, on 11 Aug 1863. He was captured at Farmville, Virginia, on 6 Apr 1865, and released from Point Lookout, Maryland, 11 Jun 1865. Joseph married Versy G. Goodwin 29 Nov 1866, in Jackson County, Florida. James H. Dykes, son of John Dykes and Elizabeth Freeman, was born 22 Nov 1848, in Barnwell District, South Carolina, and died 20 Aug 1920, in Jackson County, Florida. James was a member of Captain Robinson's Club Cavalry and was engaged at the battle of Marianna, escaping across the Chipola River. [WEST FLORIDA WAR, COX - EGS DATABASE]

Moses Dykes, son of Jacob Horn Dykes and Sabra Mariah Dixon, was born about 1839 in Gadsden County, Florida. He died in 1899, and is buried at Dykes Cemetery, Sneads, Jackson County, Florida. Moses Dykes enlisted in Captain Attaway's Company (Co. F), 6th Florida Infantry, on 10 May 1862, at Apalachicola Arsenal, Florida. He was promoted to 5th sergeant from private, on 15 Feb 1863. He was wounded on 16 Sep 1863, and spent some time in a Confederate Hospital. He was later listed as being absent without leave at home in Jackson County. He was surrendered at Quincy, Florida , 11 May 1865. [EGS DATABASE - NARA M251 REEL 70]
William Henry Dykes, son of Jacob Horn Dykes and Sabra Mariah Dixon, was born 17 Jul 1831, and died 5 Jun 1900. Her enlisted in Company I, 4th Florida Infantry on 3 Jul 1861, at St. Vincent's Island. Isaac B. Harrell, son of Ransom Whitfield Harrell and Martha Aw Wa Dabbega (the daughter of Aw Wa Dabbega, Creek Indian) was born 1 May 1840, and died 22 Feb 1915. He enlisted in Company E, 8th Regiment Florida Infantry on 13 May 1862, at Marianna. Last record on file indicates he was in Receiving & Wayside Hospital (General Hospital # 9), Richmond, Virginia, during Oct & Nov 1863. John J. Hester enlisted as a private in Company I, 12th Georgia Infantry 14 Jun 1861. He was born at Cuthbert, Ga. in 1840. [HENDERSON'S ROSTER OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS OF GEORGIA]
J. H. Hill enlisted 13 Mar 1862, and was rejected as being to young on 21 Apr 1862. His pension record lists him as being born 2 Feb 1846, in Decatur County, Georgia. He died 18 Oct 1918. [FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION APPLICATION D11102 - NARA M251 REEL 71]
Lumpkin McDaniel, son of Risdon McDaniel, was born 24 Oct
1839. He enlisted in Company A, 11th Florida Infantry Regiment in 11 Aug
1862. He was at home sick at the end of the war with chronic diarrhea. Click

John Jasper Owens, son of David T. Owens, was born Jul 1834, in Thomas County, Georgia, and he died 8 Mar 1915. He enlisted in Company A (The Dixie Boys), 57th Georgia Infantry Regiment on 1 May 1862. He was Captured in Kentucky on 4 Sep 1862, and paroled at Barbourville, Kentucky, same date. John was again captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on 4 Jul 1863, and paroled there on 7 Jul 1863. He was detailed Color Corporal in Jan 1864. Frances "Frank" M. Shelfer, son of Levi Shelfer and Nancy L. Dykes, was born in Gadsden County, Florida on 18 Aug 1848. In 1864 when he was sixteen years old he was a member of the Marianna Home Guard. His name has not been found on any records, but this is not unusual for the last few years of the war, when records were not kept up to date and others were destroyed. [EGS DATABASE] - WPA GRAVE LIST
Levi Shelfer was born 1 Apr 1801. He was a Seminole War Veteran. In 1861 he was a member of Black Hawk Cavalry and served with unit it was disbanded. He enlisted 26 May 1863, in Company E, at Camp Milton, Florida, as a substitute for J. Bird. He transferred to Company A, 5th Florida Cavalry 15 Sep 1863 then transferred to Company E, 5th Florida Cavalry soon after. The last file on record recorded him as absent on detached duty since 17 Jan 1865. Levi was paroled at Quincy 21 May 1865. [FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION #A11436 - EGS DATABASE]
John Franklin "Frank" Watts was born 24 May 1845, in Clay
County, Georgia, and died 27 Apr 1919, in Jackson County, Florida. He
enlisted in Company G, 64th Regiment Georgia Infantry on 5 April 1863. Frank
was wounded at Olustee and later at the Battle of the Crater at Petersburg,
Virginia. He was one of five men of his company who surrendered at
Appomattox, Virginia, on 9 Apr 1865. The affects of his wounds and his
age caused him in later years to became unable to take care of his daily
activities or do work. He applied for and received a pension. Click here

John White enlisted in Captain Chamber's Company Florida Volunteers (Gulf Coast Rangers) on 5 Apr 1862. He was twenty-five years old at the time of his enlistment. The Gulf Coast Rangers became Company A, 9th Florida Infantry. He was discharged after furnishing a substitute, then when his substitute deserted "to the enemy" he was ordered back to the company by the commanding General and listed as "deserted" . A note in his records states he left for Cuba on 9 Jan 1863, after being ordered back to his company. His substitute deserted to the "enemy". [CIVIL WAR MICROFILM - NARA PUB 251 REEL 92]
Captain Joe Williams is not found on the Rolls of Company E, 10th Florida Infantry. One J. E. Williams is listed on the roll for Company E, but he was a private. No Joe or Joseph Williams matching the dates of Captain Joe Williams birth or death is found in the Pension Index for Florida.
