Richard Carey Blount Lawrence, son of Peter Payne Lawrence and Nancy Anne Blunt, was born in North Carolina, 25 Feb 1818. During the Battle of Marianna he sustained a bullet wound to the fleshy part of his thigh during the fighting around St. Luke's Church. He took refuge in a blacksmith shop behind the church where he was rescued by his family with the help of a Union sergeant.[EGA DATABASE - THE BATTLE OF MARIANNA]


Private Oliver Rostrum
Company C, 1st Florida Reserves

 

Oliver Rostrum was born in New York on 20 Jan 1815. He is listed as a Merchant Tailor in the 1860 Jackson County census.  He enlisted as a private in Company C, 1st Florida Reserves on 2 May 1864. He was at the Battle of Marianna on 27 Sep 1864. He remained in the 1st Florida Reserves until he was surrendered at Quincy, Florida, 2 May 1865.  Oliver died on 17 Feb 1884, and is buried at the Lawrence Cemetery, near Merritt's Mill Pond, Marianna, Florida.
