Adam McNealy, son of William McNealy and Lavina Wise, was born in Bulloch
County, Georgia, on 20 Jul 1817, and he died in Jackson County, Florida, on
15 Jun 1899. A pension record indicates he enlisted in Captain Davis's
Florida Home Guards in early 1863. He was a member of Captain
Norwood's "Cradle to Grave" Home Guard at the Battle of Marianna, on 27 Sep
1864. Adam was shot thru a lung and then he received a head wound from the
butt of a musket. Adam McNealy was removed from the field by the women of
the town and taken to the home of Mrs. Mary Armistead for treatment. At the
time of the Battle of Marianna, he was a Jackson County Commissioner. After
the war Adam McNealy helped create the public school system in Jackson
County. [EDENFIELD DATABASE - THE BATTLE OF MARIANNA -
