Company A, 11th Florida Infantry

 

James D. McDaniel enlisted in Company A , 11th Florida Infantry Regiment, at Merritt’s Bridge, in Aug 1862. James spent a good part of 1863 and 1864 in Confederate Military Hospitals. [CIVILWARMICROFILM.COM - NARA PUB. M251 REEL 101]

Private Bryant Messer
Company B, 5th Battalion Florida Cavalry

Bryant Messer was born in North Carolina, 2 Mar 1809, and died in Jackson County, Florida, 18 Jul 1886. One B. Messer enlisted in Captain Smith's Independent Cavalry Company on 21 Feb 1863. He was a substitute for Private John H. Gibson. This company became Company B, 5th Battalion, Florida Cavalry in Oct 1863. He served with this company until the end of the war. Note: If B. Messer were in fact Bryant Messer, he would have been fifty-two years old at time of his enlistment. If anyone has information on this soldier, please contact Ashley Pollette. Private William Frank Messer
Company A, 1st Florida Infantry

William Frank Messer, son of Bryant Edward Messer and Martha Jarman, was born 10 Jul 1833, and he died in Jackson County, Florida, 1 Dec 1884. William Messer enlisted in Captain Amaker's Company, 1st Florida Infantry Regiment on 4 Apr 1861. This Company became Company A, 1st Florida Infantry Regiment. He transferred to Company B, 1st Florida Infantry Regiment on 2 Jan 1862. It appears William enlisted in Company B, 8th Florida Infantry Regiment in 1862. There is a William F. Messer listed as a teamster from Company B, 8th Florida Regiment in the files. This William F. Messer surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, 9 Apr 1865. George Washington Robinson's Home Guard

Elisha F. Nichols, son of James Nichols and Irena Amelia Coulter, was born in Spalding County, Georgia, 13 Oct 1848. He enlisted in Captain George Washington's Home Guard in Jackson County, Florida, 15 Jun 1864. Elisha married Teresa A. Basford in Jackson County, Florida, on 17 Jan 1866. Elisha died on 15 Jul 1913.
