Compatriot Newton Brooks is awarded the SCV War Medal by Commander Robert Daffin. Compatriot Newton Brooks served on the USS Helm. This hero survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941. Compatriot Brooks sent the first message of the attack--the one Admiral Halsey received: "Japs attack Pearl; this is no drill!" He later served as a radio operator on Guam.
