George H. Maynard was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor on
March 20, 1898, for gallantry at the battle of Sharpsburg (Antietam),
Maryland, the battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and at Marianna, Florida,
on September 27, 1864. One can find no information on his gallantry
at Marianna, Florida, on any of the Medal of Honor websites on the web
today. Even the Medal of Honor has fallen victim to political
