Camp1346 Projects

1st Annual April Membership Drive

Theophilus West, M.D., Camp No. 1346; Order of the Confederate Rose, Florida Society; and William Henry Milton Chapter No. 1039, United Daughters of the Confederacy held their first annual membership drive on April 11 and 12, 2008 at the Marianna Arts and Pork Festival. The group had a slow day on Friday, but Saturday April 12th, business picked up when the Order of the Confederate Rose; CSS Tallahassee, Marine Guard, Company B;  and Adjutant Larry Clere and 2nd Lieutenant Lionel Young  of Camp 1346 turned out in period dress. Company B fired their 12 pound howitzer ten times to the enjoyment of the crowd. Camp 1346 wishes to thank all those who took part in this drive. Special thanks to Sylvia Darby, President of the Confederate Rose, Florida Society.

The Battle of Marianna, Florida
September 27, 1864

James H. Brett was the Marianna town constable and a member of Norwood's "Cradle to Grave" Volunteers at the time of the Marianna Raid. It is reported he was wounded and then clubbed to death by Black Union Troops. He was fifty-two at the time of his death. [THE WEST FLORIDA WAR]
