James H. Brett
Riverside Cemetery

James H. Brett, a member of "Norwood's Cradle to Grave Volunteers" died defending Marianna, Florida,  on 27 Sep 1864. He was the original 1st Lieutenant of the defunct "Jackson Guards" home guard unit. Lieutenant Brett was fifty-two years old at the time of his death. Note: Not only was this headstone repaired, but the grave site had to be located. [THE WEST FLORIDA WAR - ANCESTRY.COM]

A total of 24 cemeteries have had the GPS readings completed and all headstones which are missing or in need of repair have been located.

John Bryant Henderson
Sims Cemetery

John Bryant Henderson, son of Urban Henderson, was born in Onslow County, North Carolina, on 19 Apr 1839. John enlisted as a private, in Company E, 8th Florida Infantry Regiment, on 13 May 1862, at the age of 23. John surrendered 10 May 1865, at Tallahassee, Florida. He married Lavina Tency Welsh. John Widgeon
Robinson Family Cemetery

John Widgeon enlisted as a private in Captain Smith's Marianna Dragoons on 14 Mar 1862, and died of disease on 31 Oct 1862. He is buried at Robinson's Family Cemetery, Marianna, Jackson County, Florida. [ANCESTRY.COM]  To Robinson Family Cemetery

Allen H. Bush
St. Luke's Episcopal Church Cemetery

Allen Henry Bush was born in Georgia in 1809. He practiced law in Marianna from the early 1840s until his death. For some years he was the local circuit judge and during the Civil War, he was a legal advisor for Governor John Milton. At fifty-five years of age, he is listed as a private in Captain Norwood’s "Cradle to Grave" Militia Company. Private Allen Bush was taken captive during the Marianna Raid on 27 Sep 1864, he was imprisoned at New Orleans, Ship Island, and Elmira. Private Allen Bush returned home after the war and resumed his law practice.

Greenwood Baptist Cemetery

In August 2008 a large tree fell in Greenwood Cemetery
damaging several Confederate Veteran headstones.

Riley Cicero Long enlisted in Captain Gwynn's Independent Cavalry Company at Newport, Florida, on 23 May 1863. This Company became Company A, 5th Battalion Florida Cavalry. He was was paroled at Quincy, Florida, on 22 May 1865. [NARA M251 REEL 17 - ANCESTRY.COM]

John R. Steed, son of Agrippa Alexander Steed and Caroline Mae Roberson, was born in Georgia, on 27 Nov 1834, and died in Jackson County, Florida, 2 Jan 1891. John enlisted as a private in Company D, (Captain Finley's Company), 6th Florida Infantry on 18 Mar 1862, at the age of 27. John was promoted to 2nd Sergeant on 16 May 1862, and then Full 1st Sergeant on 1 Nov 1863. He is listed as being 5' 8" with brown eyes, dark hair, and dark complexion. Francis Marian Rogers
Rogers Family Cemetery

Francis Marion Rodgers, son of Thomas and Bethany Rodgers, was born 25 May 1839, in Georgia. He enlisted in Captain Finley's Company on 20 Apr 1862, at Mt. Vernon Arsenal, Florida. Francis was captured near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on 7 Dec 1864, and was sent to Camp Chase, Ohio. He took the Oath of Allegiance on 12 June 1865, and was released. Francis Marion Rodgers is the 2nd Great-grandfather of Faye Dunaway. [NARA PUB M251: REEL 74 - EDENFIELD.ORG]

John J. Holmes
Waldroff Cemetery

John J. Holmes was born 27 Dec 1846, and is listed in the Coffee County, Alabama, 1860 census. He enlisted in Company H, 5th Regiment Florida Infantry on 10 Mar 1862. John was wounded in the face at Cold Harbor, Virginia, in 1864, and his last record indicates he was on wounded leave. Prisoner of War records show he returned to duty and was captured at Farmville, Virginia on 6 Apr 1865. He was paroled at Newport News, Virginia, on 24 Jun 1865. At the time of his parole he was listed as having a light complexion, dark hair,  dark eyes, and was 5' 8" tall. On 27 Dec 1906, he married Johnanna Mears. John J. Holmes died on 13 Sep 1912. Johnanna died on 22 Jul 1968. Her death left only two Confederate Widows living in Jackson County, Florida. Mrs. Eulee Davis and Mrs. Malissie Smith were still receiving Confederate Widow pensions in 1968. [Source: Florida Confederate Pension # A02394]
