Confederate Participant
The Battle of Marianna, Florida
September 27, 1864

Arthur Lewis was born about 1807 in North Carolina. He was a member of Captain Norwood's "Cradle to Grave" Volunteers. His son, Arthur, Jr., was the scout from Company I, 5th Florida Cavalry who brought news of the Union advance on Marianna, Florida, in late September 1864. Arthur, Sr. was severely wounded during the Marianna Raid and died two days later on September 29, 1864. Arthur Lewis, Sr. has been confused with Arthur Lewis, Jr. and is listed on some lists as being in Company I, 5th Florida Cavalry.  [ANCESTRY.COM – WEST FLORIDA WAR]
